Hubbard North is the sister school of Hubbard’s flagship campus in Stamford, Connecticut, Hubbard Day School. Located just 15 minutes south of Hartford in Rocky Hill, Hubbard North is able to conveniently serve students and families from school districts in Hartford, New Haven and Middlesex Counties, and beyond!
Just like Hubbard Day, Hubbard North accepts students ages 5 to 22 who, due to their disability, require a self-contained educational environment. We serve students with disabilities with behavioral, cognitive, and learning needs and provide a high ratio of staff to students, while striving to educate students in the least restrictive environment that is appropriate to meet their needs. As such, we work to return students to a less restrictive environment when it is appropriate based upon their progress.
Our approach to ABA therapy ensures that Hubbard North will never rely on seclusion rooms. We do not involuntarily confine students alone in a room from which the student cannot leave. We do not utilize mechanical restraints, pharmacological restraints, or prone restraints. THese practices are consistent with our core values which vow to honor the dignity and humanity of our students, even as we challenge them to progress towards individualized therapeutic and educational goals.
Hubbard North has a medical advisor and full-time nurse. The nurse provides medical monitoring support and administers both daily and rescue medications. In addition, the nurse also handles routine and emergency concerns. Our medical advisor is a pediatrician who oversees the work of the nurse and is available to provide consultation throughout the school year.
We provide a broad range of related services including speech and language therapy (that can incorporate alternative communication and assistive technology strategies), occupational therapy, physical therapy (as needed), applied behavioral analysis (ABA), music therapy, community experience and vocational training and opportunities. These services are individualized to meet each student’s developmental needs.
Lynne Guilmette has worked within the special education field for close to 40 years—first as a Special Education teacher, then Program Director of the Program of Experiential Learning in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and later as a program consultant across Connecticut and Massachusetts. From there, she ran a clinic-based model for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and finally developed and opened, an Approved Private Special Education Program (APSEP) in Connecticut, which she ran first as Chief Administrator and finally Executive Director over the span of 16 years. She is also a recipient of the prestigious Margaret Bauman Award, a lifetime achievement award given for excellence to those who serve the Autism community.
Hubbard North’s facilities are currently under renovation, but when complete, the Rocky Hill campus will be fully compliant with ADA standards, and feature large classrooms, private offices for group and individual therapies, mixed work spaces for related service providers, a state of the art OT Gymnasium, sensory rooms, an outdoor playground, as well as ample parking.
Hubbard North seeks dynamic and energetic educational and clinical professionals who possess a deep love of children with special needs, a growth mindset, and excitement for contributing to a start-up environment. We are accepting applications for Certified Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and more.
